We think this is probably the most opulent Watervale Riesling we’ve ever made – it’s Riesling on a grand scale. The bouquet is really powerful: spice, rhubarb, blackcurrant, lemon and apple. And the palate has tremendous weight and depth with fruit intensity right at the top end of the scale; ‘Grand Cru’ instantly springs to mind. This is a white wine with the weight (and complexity) to complement even very intensely flavoured foods. It’s pretty dramatic and won’t slip by unnoticed – and that drama and that complexity make it a pretty fascinating wine to drink, to contemplate on its own – a true vin de meditation as the French would say: it’s just got so, so much going on.
Pair with Tofu Jungle curry, scallops cooked in butter, crab or lobster with a simple creamy sauce served with watercress, peashoots and microherbs.
