Barossa Valley, Padthaway
Rich dark red in colour with a dark purple rim, the nose shows rich concentrated red and blue fruits, dark chocolate and rich mocha notes with hints of spice and cedary oak.
The palate is rich and plush with good structure. There is a concentrated layer of berry fruit and oak which is balanced with the fine tannins to give length and power while finishing soft and full of flavour.
This wine can be enjoyed now but will also improve with careful cellaring. The Pepperjack winemaker Richard Mattner was born and bred in the Barossa Valley and wine runs through his vains.
On the palate the wine is rich and plush with full fresh lively dark fruit characters and savoury spice, yet has soft and silky tannins and a lingering finish.
Sourced from two sites in close proximity; one with red clay over limestone providing richness and intensity, the other at the base of the hillside on a sandy loam soil also over limestone-which provides freshness and elegance to the wine.
The fruit was fermented on skins for eight days before being pressed and transferred to barrel for 15 months maturation. A mix of 80% French and 20% American oak was used.
