McLaren Vale Shiraz ’20

Packed inside is a Shiraz from a blend of premium McLaren Vale Shiraz vineyards, which was vinified in a combination of fermentation styles then matured in American oak, to highlight the varietal characteristics. The wine combines lifted aromas of ripe plum and raspberry, with a balanced palate of red fruit flavours, spice and soft tannins.

There is a good deal of oak used in the reds, but it is well balanced by the inherent fruit richness. In this way the wines are quite traditional, but there’s always a line of acidity running through them to balance things out.

A wine label that focusses on a handful of premium wine regions across South Australia and selects the best varieties for each region, to produce a range of dynamic yet archetypal wines that showcase the very best of the state. From the Barossa Valley to McLaren Vale and on to Langhorne Creek, this is a collection of wines that showcase power and poise, richness as well as freshness. McLaren Vale Shiraz vines are grown in grey loams over old river clay with underlying limestone. The combination of site and old vines produces a lovely elegant yet powerful style of wine. The vineyard is hand pruned and harvested. The climate is moderate and tempered by the cool sea breezes from the Gulf of St. Vincent some 8 kilometres away. To find a wine of this calibre at this price is almost unheard of.

The Region

Best known for Shiraz, McLaren Vale also excels in the production of ultra-premium Grenache and Cabernet. Mediterranean varieties such as Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo and Sangiovese are also very well suited climatically and provide wine lovers with yet another layer of discovery.

Over one third of the cellar doors offer local produce as part of the tasting experience – from high-end, starred restaurants to casual platters – there is a wine and food combination to suit any taste.
